Appleton Fire Victim Identified - Jul 5, 2008 

Police say 51-year old Robert Wayne Coates of Appleton was the victim of a fatal fire in the community. The RCMP and the Fire Commissioner's Officer were at the scene Friday and say the fire is accidental. No foul play is suspected. The medical examiner's office says he died of smoke inhalation.

Wiseman Working With Surgeons in Central - Jul 5, 2008 

Health Minister Ross Wiseman says they are working through the weekend to come up with a short term plan to deal with a shortage of surgeons at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre in Grand Falls - Windsor.  Wiseman says after meetings Thursday and Friday with medical staff and officials from Central Health they are evaluating a variety of suggestions put forward. He says he's also had discussions with surgeons, doctors Mark O'Driscoll and Peter Blackwood, and is working to deal with their concerns. Wiseman says money is not the main concern.

Province To Be Promoted at 2010 Games - Jul 5, 2008 
The Minister of Tourism Culture and Recreation says the 2010 Vancouver Olympics will offer a unique opportunity to showcase Newfoundland and Labrador. The province signed on to be a contributing partner Friday to the tune of 1.5 million dollars. Clyde Jackman says this province will have an audience with the entire globe.

CEO for the Vancouver 2010 Organizing Committee John Furlong says they are hoping to have plans finalized by the end of the year for the Torch Relay, which will arrive in the province prior to the games. Furlong says he was in the province when Team Gushue returned from Torino, gold medals in hand.

As part of the partnership program, a dedicated Newfoundland and Labrador Day will be held during the Games, both in Vancouver and here at home.
